Having become extremely fashionable in recent years and adding a great deal of value to any home, we make sure that we are up to speed on the latest and greatest in wood flooring. From suppliers with a proven track record we can supply and fit both solid and engineered wood floors, including all the necessary finishings required.
Solid wood flooring comes in a huge variety of woods, widths, thickness and colour, making them suitable for both modern and traditional homes. As the name suggests, it is cut directly from the log. As conditions are more critical for this type of wood floor, our specialists are happy to advise you on its suitability on an area-by-area basis.
It is nailed onto joists or a quality subfloor but can also be glued to a concrete or wooden subfloor with a considerable allowance for wood expansion.
You have the option of planks being supplied prefinished or unfinished. Unfinished allows you to colour and finish the wood to your own preference once fitted onsite whereas prefinished ensures a quicker, tidier installation with a floor that is ready to walk on immediately after fitting is complete.
With proper care and maintenance, a solid wood floor can last a lifetime.
Engineered wood flooring is composed of several layers of plywood underneath a veneer of genuine solid wood, giving it an appearance very similar to a solid wood floor when fitted. The veneer layer varies in thickness, between 2mm and 8mm, depending on the quality purchased.
This cross plywood construction gives engineered wood flooring a few advantages over solid wood. The strength and stability counteracts some of the usual problems that are encountered, such as cupping and tenting at even the slightest sign of moisture. And its versatility makes it suitable for kitchens and bathrooms as well as over under-floor heating.
In some instances, carpets have been fitted over existing wooden floors in need of nothing more than a professional restoration. If you think this is the case and are interested in bringing an old wooden floor back to its former glory, we are happy to evaluate and advise on this. As with all our work, it is carried out by a reliable tradesman.
